If your landline has no dial tone, you will not hear the normal tone when lifting the handset and you may be unable to make or receive calls.
Symptoms may include:
- No sound when lifting the handset
- Unable to make outgoing calls
- Incoming calls do not ring
- Phone line appears completely dead
- Emergency calls cannot be made
A missing dial tone may be caused by:
- Faulty telephone handset

- Fibre issue (If on Fibre)
- Telephone socket issue (If on Copper)
- Temporary network outage
- Fault on the external phone line
Follow these steps to check your landline:
- Check the phone cable
Ensure the telephone cable is firmly connected to the wall socket and handset - Test another telephone handset
Plug in a different phone to check if the handset is faulty. - Check your Fibre box (For Fibre service)
Make sure the Fibre box is powered on and connected.
- Restart Fibre Box
Turn off the Fibre box for 30 seconds, then wait 15 minutes for the Fibre to resync - Disconnect other devices
Unplug any extension phones, fax machines, or splitters and test using only one handset.
Before contacting support, check the following:
- Are the other phones in your home also without a dial tone?
- Is your Fibre box showing 3 green lights
- Does the phone work when plugged into a different telephone socket?
- Did the problem start recently?
