Home voicemail enables people to leave you a message when you can't answer your phone.
Voicemail is free to all of our landline customers and you need no extra equipment.
To set it up, you simply need to set up call diverts, then you will be able to dial 171 from your landline and follow the instructions to set a PIN and record a greeting.
With our new voicemail system, you can now merge your mobile and landline voicemail boxes so that you can easily manage your messages.
You can also manage your voicemail settings online and even receive voicemail messages as an email attachment.
Set up home voicemail
To set up home voicemail (on your landline, not your mobile), you first need to set your calls to divert.
You have three options for call divert, which means callers will be diverted to your voicemail in the circumstance that you choose.
Simply dial the number below to set your voicemail to divert:
- Immediate
Dial *21*171# (to divert all calls straight to voicemail) - On busy
Dial *67*171# (to divert calls to voicemail when you are busy) - No reply
Dial *61*171# (to divert callers to voicemail when you do not answer)
Once you have set up your calls to divert, you can then:
Dial 171 to access your Voicemail mailbox from the landline you wish to set up voicemail with.
The first time you access your voicemail you will be asked to set a PIN. This 4-digit password is only required to access your voicemail from another phone (eg. a mobile or while abroad). You will then be asked to record a greeting for callers to hear.
To change other settings press the star key (*) for the admin menu below.
Knowing if you have a message
There are two ways in which you will be notified that you have a new message:
Call Back
Your phone will ring you back at predetermined intervals instead of alerting you with an interrupted dial tone. This means you no longer have to pick up the phone and listen to find out if you have any messages. Your phone is set to ring you back between 07:00 and 22:00, if you have unplayed messages.
You can change or cancel these ring back times from the online management system or by calling our contact centre on 01481 700700.
Please note that if you choose an Immediate (all calls) divert, you cannot receive ring back alerts and you will need to dial 171 to find out if you have any messages.
SMS or email notification
You can choose to receive alerts via email or SMS (when merged with a mobile mailbox) from the online management system.
Retrieving, storing and deleting messages
To access your voicemail
- From home, dial 171
- From another landline dial 700000
- From other networks dial +44 (0) 1481 700000
When accessing voicemail other than from your home landline (Guernsey) you will be prompted to enter your mailbox number and PIN.
To listen to messages
Your voicemail system will automatically play any new messages when you access your mailbox.
To listen to previously stored messages, press the star key (*) to access the admin menu then follow the instructions, pressing 1 listen to messages. After each message you will be prompted to either repeat, store or delete each message.
You can also listen to your messages and manage your voicemail with our online management system.
Please note that when accessing your voicemail from your home number (or Sure mobile if you have one), 171 is FREE. However, when you access voicemail from another landline or from another network, calls will be charged at the usual rates.
Record a personal greeting
The greeting is a personal welcome that callers hear when diverted to your mailbox.
To change this greeting, access your voicemail by dialing 171 then select '2' Personalise Mailbox from the menu. You can also manage your various greetings via the online management system.
How to change your voicemail PIN
For security, your PIN prevents other people from listening to your messages from other landlines or mobiles. You will need to input your voicemail PIN if you are accessing your voicemail from any phone except for the landline that the voicemail is set up on.
If you have forgotten your PIN, you can change it simply by dialling 171 from that landline and change the PIN by pressing 2 then 1. If you would like to access your voicemail from a different landline or mobile phone and have forgotten your PIN, please call our customer services on 01481 700700 who will be able to reset your voicemail PIN after security verification.
Once your PIN has been reset, you can also manage your PIN settings via our online management system.
How to link a mobile and landline voicemail
If you have a Sure mobile, you can choose to merge your mobile and landline voicemail boxes.
To do this, dial 171 from either your mobile or landline and select option 4 merge mailboxes from the main menu.
Alternatively, login to the online management system and choose Configuration, then Subscriber Identities. Here you can merge identities of your landline and mobile voicemail boxes.
Even if you choose not to link your boxes, checking your home voicemail from your Sure mobile is easy, and it's free (unless you are roaming, in which case standard roaming costs apply). Dial +44 1481 700000 and enter your full landline number (including the 01481 STD code).
