Data fair use policy

If your plan has an allocated monthly allowance of data then:

  • we allow 20 gigabytes (GB) of data to be consumed each day;
  • After this “Fair Usage Policy” we slow the speed that you are able to access data (we set daily policies so your enjoyment of our fast 4G speeds is not impacted for the entire month);
  • This prevents a small number of our customers from impacting the quality of mobile data connectivity for the vast majority of our customers.

Examples of such plans include: Basic (0GB); Smart Starter (1GB); Smart 50GB (50GB); Mobile Broadband 5GB (5GB) etc.

Once you have consumed the monthly allowance allocated to your plan you are able to consume a further £20 of chargeable data after which no further data can be consumed.


If you have an old plan with no monthly data allowance (“unlimited data”) then we allow 500 megabytes (MB) of data to be consumed each day before restricting the speed.


I keep getting a fair use limit message / my speeds reduced. What can I do about it?

If you are on a plan with unlimited data (no monthly mobile data allowances) and you are consuming more than 500 megabytes per day then you may want to move on to one of our new plans.
